We aim to be a voice for our members when issues that affect them need to be addressed, and to let service providers and those involved with the care and education of our members and their children know when things are going right.
By being a member of the Guernsey Disability Alliance, Wigwam is able to build links with other local disability charities, share information and take an active role in campaigning for appropriate support and services for our members. Find out more about the GDA
Parent Partnership meetings are held approximately 3 times a year and bring together the heads of both special schools, representatives from HSSD and Education.
Our aim in working with the child development team based at Le Rondin school is to provide an informal environment in which we and the team can meet and spend time with the families of pre-school age children who have been referred to their service.
We are pleased that a three way partnership made between Wigwam, Health and Social Services and Education to provide a specialist service level agreement with an organisation called ACE has proved very successful. ACE is a UK charity who specialise in providing communication aids for children with complex communication needs.
In 2003 we held a very successful public meeting where deputies were invited to attend. The aim of the meetings was to address how the proposed changes to the way the speech therapy service was to be delivered would affect members whose feeling were that the proposals would have a negative impact on their children's therapy.
